Crucible, The
Synopsis
In 1692, in Salem, Massachusetts, a teenage girl's accusation that she was bewitched wrecks havoc and hysteria in the New England small town. When a small group of teenage girls are caught in an innocent conjuring of love potions, they are forced to tell lies that Satan had invaded them and forced them to participate in the rites. The Congressional Communist witch trials that followed, led by Senator Joe McCarthy, saw the execution of those who demanded their innocence, the torture and incarceration of those who would not name names, and the freeing of those who admitted their guilt. Based on the celebrated Arthur Miller play.
