what's funny, serious and hairy all over?

Robin Williams is a talented comedian and actor.  He’s a shape-shifter of the acting trade, capable of making us laugh and making us cry.  But can he handle suspense?  Can comedians ever really make the transition to do horror, suspense and thriller?  I remember when Insomnia was announced.  I was excited at the prospect of Robin playing a sinister character, but really I watched that movie just waiting for the punch line. 

I’ll be watching Insomnia for a couple of reasons this weekend.  Primarily because I’m excited to watch the film knowing now that it was lead-in to the Dark Knight movies directed by Christopher Nolan,  and secondly to see if I can do it without cracking a smile at Robin Williams' bland performance.  It shouldn’t be too hard – after all, I didn’t crack a smile once for Robin in Old Dogs.
