There are psycho killers, and then there's Hannibal. To me, the scariest horrors and thrillers are not the ones in which the bad guys are the blood-sucking vampires with large fangs or grotesque-looking monsters with their face half-melted and distorted. The most horrifying movies are the ones in which you can't tell if the bad guy is a bad guy. The enemy is one of us—a human. A normal-looking person who has a desire to kill, for no apparent reason.
Such is the case with Hannibal Lecter, the infamous cannibal who has haunted us since the Oscar-winning Best Picture The Silence of the Lambs. The man-eating Dr. Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins, returns in this psychological thriller based on a novel by Thomas Harris. Hannibal continues to be on the run from the FBI while keeping an arm's length from FBI agent Clarice Starling, played by Julianne Moore— who replaces Jodie Foster as Clarice.
I'm not sure I'd eat another of my own kind if I were on a deserted island and desperate for food, so the idea of man eating man is plain disgusting... But Anthony Hopkins is such a phenomenal actor and makes the Hannibal series a little easier to stomach (Get it? Ha ha ha.)
