The saying "things aren’t always as they seem" is an apparent truth in Sleeping with the Enemy. What looks like a perfectly happy and loving marriage from the outside is everything but what it seems.

Laura (Julia Roberts) and Martin (Patrick Bergin) have been married for years. However, the loving and caring relationship they once had is overtaken by Martin’s obsessive and abusive nature which puts Laura in immense danger.

When living in constant fear becomes too much for Laura to deal with, she begins to plan her escape. When Martin finds out that Laura has fled, he does everything he can to find and kill her.
