Erin "Slim" Hiller (Jennifer Lopez) is a young waitress in a small restaurant. When Mitch (Billy Campbell) walks in one day, Erin believes him to be the perfect gentleman.

They eventually get married, buy a big beautiful house and have a daughter named Gracie. What seems like the perfect marriage and perfect family soon self-destructs when Erin suspects her husband of cheating.

When Erin confronts Mitch about the other woman and threatens to take Gracie and leave, Mitch becomes abusive. When Erin has had "enough," she takes her daughter and leaves the house. Mitch tracks them down and Erin learns self-defense to finally put an end to their marriage once and for all.
