Ok, we're all aware of the topic. We've heard the debates, the arguments and the cases. We've even seen the movies and heard the stories. Here, in this very blog—I will finally, scientifically, weigh all the options to which of the two, Vampires or Werewolves, are the most terrifying creatures.
Using examples presented in movies, series, stories and some help from Wikipedia, I will develop a series of 9 questions and scoring system. By the end of this, we'll finally have our answer.
1. Animal Instinct - which would kill you faster/messier/more painfully? (worth 5 points)
2. Scare Factor - walking through a dark alley, which one scares you more? (worth 5 points)
3. Sexiness - you have to give points for this (worth 5 points)
4. Ability to Reason - if you're caught, can you reason with them? (worth -5 points)
5. Strengths (+2 points for each known strength)
6. Transformation - how do I become part of the club? (worth 5 points)
7. Weakness (-1 point for each known weakness)
8. Lifestyle - Now that I'm one of them, what's my life like? (worth +/-5 points)
9. Ability to Escape - Reasoning with them has failed, can you escape? (worth -5 points)
Let's start with Vampires
1. Animal Instinct / 2 points
Vampires can kill in a second, but in most cases it's rather clean. It's just two small bite marks on your throat. In some cases it's even invited.
2. Scare Factor / 1 point
Vampires come across like any other slick, handsome/sexy, well-spoken person. Heck, you can't even see their fangs.
3. Sexiness / 5 points
No debate here. Vampires are sexy.
4. Ability to Reason / -3 points
You might be able to talk your way out of death. Just don't piss him off. Oh, and cover that neck of yours.
5. Strengths / 16 points
Extremely fast, can fly/jump high, very strong, ability to hypnotize, ability to read minds, super healing, immortal, and shape shifting.
6. Transformation / 3 points
You mean I can become one of you! Bite me, feed me your blood or by transfusion.
7. Weakness / - 7 points
Sunlight, decapitation, garlic, holy water, the cross/holy symbols, must be invited into the home, and Silver.
8. Lifestyle / 4 points
Vampires are truly the Rock Stars of supernatural creatures. Party all night - and sleep all day. Although it's tough to hold a job only working nights.
9. Ability to Escape / -0 points
You've pissed off a vampire. Let's face it, he doesn't like you and you're dinner! You're not getting away.
Vampire Total = 21 points
And onto Werewolves!
1. Animal Instinct / 5 points
You've just been killed by a Werewolf. And boy was it messy.
2. Scare Factor / 5 points
Giant wolf is walking toward you in an alley. That's scary sh*^.
3. Sexiness / 0 points
They need a pedicure, manicure and some serious waxing.
4. Ability to Reason / -1 points
I don't even think a werewolf understands what you're saying - but I've seen it done once or twice.
5. Strengths / 8 points
Extremely fast, very strong, animal senses, super healing.
6. Transformation / 3 points
Bite me, be my mommy, or by curse.
7. Weakness / - 2 point
Silver, decapitation.
8. Lifestyle / 1 point
Not much of a change from regular life. But when they change form, they sure do wreck their clothes, and they will have to run naked back to safety.
9. Ability to Escape / -2 points
Because they have animal instincts, one would guess you could escape by throwing a raw steak in front of them... right.
Werewolf Total = 17 points
And there you have it. Vampires win. In the end, it comes down to the strengths and Vampires dwarf the Werewolf in that category by 8 points. But really, in film it all comes down to personal preference and opinion. For me, the Werewolf is more frightening, but I do enjoy the sexiness of Vampires.
Where do you weigh in?
