The term Stigmata refers to wounds, scars or sores on the body which correspond to the crucifixion wounds of Christ, usually on the head, hands and feet. Over centuries, many people have claimed to have experienced these “holy wounds,” especially those named Saints by the Roman Catholic Church.
The movie Stigmata is about a young American girl named Frankie (Patricia Arquette) who begins to experience Stigmata. When the Vatican hears about it, they send Father Andrew Kiernan (Gabriel Byrne) to investigate the situation.
As time passes, Frankie’s wounds get worse, secrets come out and Father Andrew begins to question his faith and commitment to the Catholic Church.
