Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves) is a defense attorney in Florida known for never losing a case, even if it means defying morality and lying to win.

When approached by John Milton (Al Pacino) about a job opportunity at a New York City firm for a lot of money, Kevin packs up his life and moves to the Big Apple with his wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron).

As his work load increases and cases become more challenging, Kevin finds less and less time to spend with his wife. When Mary Ann confronts Kevin about his new boss raping her, Kevin believes her to be crazy and has her committed.

As the story unfolds, Kevin begins to question if his wife was telling the truth and if his boss is actual Satan himself.
