The topic of which is scarier, Vampires or Werewolves has been beaten to death. I’ve even had my own opinion on this particular topic in the past. Click HERE for that blog. But what if we compared the acting prowess, the brawn and the coolness of the two legends that play the title villains of the Sexy Beast weekend films coming up on DUSK Bram Stokers Dracula vs. Wolf. What you end up with is a standoff of Gary Oldman vs. Jack Nicholson.
Toe to toe, I think Gary Oldman would edge Jack Nicholson in a fight. He is 20 years the younger of Jack (born in 1958 to Jack born in 1937) but worth noting, Gary is ¾ inch shorter than Jack and Jacks upbringing was much tougher. Jack was born in New York City, and his father had abandoned him. He was raised by his Grandmother and older Sister. Gary on the other hand was born in London, England - the son of a welder and a homemaker. He went to drama College and received a B.A. in theatre arts.
Round 1, Gary and Jack in a fight – Point to Gary (barley)
You put these two in a film and I can’t imagine what the outcome would be, but taking a look at their respective resumes and you get a good idea at the range and power these two bring when they’re on film. Jack tips the scales slightly with 75 roles popping up on IMBD, where Gary sits at 69. As for being recognized for their acting achievements, Jack has 64 different award winning and 47 nominations – of which he’s won 3 Oscars for best Actor and been nominated another 9 times! Gary on the other hand has had only 10 wins and 16 nominations. None of which were Oscars. He did however get nominated for 3 MTV Movie Awards including once for best villain – oh wait, Jack also was nominated 3 times, and won when he was nominated for ‘best villain’.
Round two, Gary and Jack acting – Point to Jack (but I really wanted to give it to Gary for this one)
Both Jack and Gary are cool, there is no denying that. The question is who is cooler? Gary Oldman‘s trademark is playing slightly psychotic villain type, evil characters which I love, and think is very cool. Jack’s trademarks consist of his shades, his grin, slow drawl and he’s damn charming. However, hard to beat is that Gary is in the new Batman films as Commissioner Gordon. Oh yeah. Wait a second. Jack was the Joker.
Round three, Who’s cooler – Point to Jack
So by no means is it a Knockout, but the winner after 3 rounds is Jack Nicholson over Gary Oldman. Really with either of these two guys you can’t go wrong. Check out Bram Stokers Dracula and Wolf on DUSK starting at 9pm ET Feb. 12th and make the call yourselves.
