Steve Clark (James Marsden) moves to a small coastal town with his family and soon befriends three outcast teens, Gavin Strick (Nick Stahl), U.V (Chad E. Donella) and Rachel Wagner (Katie Holmes).

When Steve hears about a group of students called the "Blue Ribbons," a program led by the high school psychologist, Gavin tries to convince him that there is something evil about the group.

After investigating the Blue Ribbons, Steve finds out that the program is meant to turn depressed and weird teenagers into perfect and prestigious students. When he hears that his parents signed him up for the Blue Ribbon program, Steve does everything in his power to destroy the device that is changing his high school, one student at a time.
