If you’ve ever seen a Stephen King film you probably already know that the new kid in town is never to be trusted; especially if he is cute and extremely interested in you. That’s exactly the kind of situation Tanya Robertson finds herself in in the 1992 horror Sleepwalkers playing on DUSK this Sunday night. Tanya falls for the golden-locked Charles Brady, (played by the adorable Brian Krause of Charmed fame), only to discover Charles is not interested in her because of her personality and he is definitely not human. Charles is a sleepwalker, a.k.a. a paranormal creature with the ability to shape shift… among other things.
The story gets ever creepier as we meet Charles’ mother Mary, also a sleepwalker, and discover that she is starving for some monster food (I’ll let you discover what that entails). Throw in a mortal fear of cats and you’ve got yourself a typical King monster-flick complete with unnatural family relationships, paranormally-sensitive wildlife and some classic special effects that will make you reminisce about the TV version of Beauty and the Beast.
There’s nothing like watching a classically-aged horror flick, especially when it comes from the mind of a horror-master. You’ve probably walked by the DVD cover a hundred times in the horror section of your near-extinct video store, so why not finally watch the film? Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Mr. King himself as he makes a cameo appearance Hitchcock-style.
Watch Sleepwalkers this Sunday, September 11th at 10p.m. on DUSK.
